Energy efficiency is the first thing that many people think of when they think of adopting a “greener” lifestyle. Perhaps it is because it is one of the aspects of our lives that we have the most control over. Simply remembering to turn off lights as we leave a room or adjusting our thermostats by a few degrees can make a big different in the amount of energy that we use. But there are many more lifestyle changes that can be made to help conserve energy.
Why Saving Energy is Important (from the EPA’s EnergyStar website)
Energy efficiency — delivering the same (or more) services for less energy — helps protect the environment. When we use less energy, the less energy we need to generate at power plants, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves the quality of our air. Energy efficiency helps the economy, too, by saving consumers and businesses millions of dollars in energy costs. Energy efficient solutions can reduce the energy bill for many homeowners and businesses by 20 to 30 percent.
