Project Backyard Brevard
was developed in an effort
to encourage participation in
the following yard certification
programs: The NWF Backyard
Wildlife Habitat Program,
the UF Florida Yards and
Neighborhoods Program and
the Florida Wildlife Extension's
Florida Backyard Landscapes
for Wildlife program. All
of these programs offer information
and recognition for those who
practice the principals of environmentally
safe landscaping, with the National
Wildlife Federation's and the
Florida Wildlife Extension's
programs geared more towards
providing proper habitat for
wildlife.
Particpation in any of these
programs helps you to create
a Florida Friendly Brevard
Yard and to show your high
regard for protecting the local
environment.
As of March 2003,
when the idea for Project Backyard
Brevard was conceived, Brevard
County had the second highest
number of certified National
Wildlife Federation Backyard
Habitats in the state of Florida,
with 119 total certified habitats.
A year later, that number has
increased by over 30% to 156!
As a state, Florida has moved
from fifth place to third place,
with a total of 1988 certified
habitats!
Information on
these programs can be found
by following the links under
the Yard Certification Programs
heading on the left.
When you are ready,
you can even apply for the NWF
Backyard Habitat Program online.
For more information or
assistance you can email a local
NWF
Habitat Steward.

Center at 633-1702.
Why not add your yard to the
many habitats in Brevard County
that are doing their part to
keep Brevard County beautiful
and wildlife friendly?
And once your yard is certified,
please let us know so that we
can add your yard to our scrapbook
of Florida
Friendly Brevard Yards.
